Background
Born in a family of seven, in l’Ascension, Quebec, the three brothers Yvon, Alain, and Jean-Marc Potvin launched the company Nordex on January 6, 1984. A short time after, Richard Gaudreault became a shareholder and joined the team.
In its early years, Nordex had a turnover of about $2 million a year, and the company was mainly in building construction and the institutional sector. In 1989, the company landed its first major contract worth $950,000 – Alma City’s water intake.
The extent of the projects entrusted to Nordex, such as the construction of the Abitibi-Price facility in Alma, in 1994, has earned it an excellent reputation throughout Quebec’s heavy industry. Its marked presence on the construction site greatly contributed to positioning Nordex as an industry leader and opened the way to numerous other large-scale projects.
Since its inception, Nordex has achieved countless projects in a wide array of fields, including: Alcan Alma smelter – Phase I, Alouette Sept-Îles smelter – Phase II, Péribonka IV spillway, Rupert River Eastmain-1A spillway, etc. Achieving these projects earned the company a sound reputation regarding its capacity to provide high quality work and respect timetables.
Today, Nordex has a $40 million turnover, and thanks to its unrivalled expertise, it is regularly invited to bid on major projects for large-scale companies such as Rio Tinto Alcan, Hydro-Québec and Resolute product Forest.
In 2019, Nordex is proud to celebrate its 35th anniversary. Over the years, the company has built an outstanding reputation for itself and expertise setting industry standards.
In 2018, a new generation of competent successors became company shareholders and are now part of Nordex’s management team: Michel Duquette & Guillaume Gagnon.
